![]() My main amplifier for these is a hybrid Music Hall PH 25.2 but they do equally well with the THX 789. A more sophisticated, more mature version of the award-winning NightHawk, NightHawk Carbon boasts. I have several headphones, which includes planar magnetics and I believe the Carbons are one of the finest, most enjoyable headphones to ever have been created and are still my favorites. If you wanted to pay me 20k id probably turn loose of them. Thank you to for sending them out for review. I'm currently at the 60 - 70 hour mark and have to say they have really started to improve in the last 10 or so hours. Audioquest recommend 150 hours which seems like a lot. I've always been sceptical about burn in but the nightowls have really opened me up to it. Im am very thankful that i did not do that as I would not trade or sale the Carbons for anything. I have truly enjoyed the time I have had with the Audioquest Nightowl Carbon. The nightowls are very good headphones but sound awful out of the box. I hated these when I first received them and wanted to trade them. Some people have said its like there is some sound processing applied…it feels that way. I guess you could argue the mids are ever so slightly recessed but once you have adjusted to what you are hearing the detail is there. Nothing is forward but there in the right amounts. Your brain needs to adapt to what you are hearing. I tell everyone that after 150 hrs to put the headphones on and play 3 songs through completely. Nighthawks have a sound that takes your ears several minutes to adjust to. They did mention the 150hr break in period and i would say definitely 150hrs. ![]() ![]() I know these post are older but there are some things about the Nighthawk that should have been detailed by Audioquest for new owners.
